Keynote: Teaching Children With Mascot-Inspired Projects by Malu Sciamarelli
This talk explores some basic features of project-based learning and shows an example with the fluffy toy Brownie the Bear and its friends. Based on this project, teachers will be able to create and elaborate their own original and creative projects with a mascot of their choice.
Bio I have been working in Brazil for over 21 years as a teacher, materials designer, Cambridge English Language Assessment freelance speaker, teacher trainer and speaking examiner, and consultant for publishers. I have taught in schools, language institutes and in companies. Currently, my main interests are Creative Writing and Creativity in the English Language Classroom. I am an associate member of The Asian Teacher-Writer Group, and a member of The C Group (Creativity for Change in Language Education). Two words excite me: curiosity and creativity. I feel the need to know, explore, understand, learn, predict — in fact anything that may lead to a new way of thinking. Maybe that’s why I’m so passionate about teaching: because I can affect how students perceive the world around them. I believe I can ignite a spark of curiosity and help them develop their own creativity. I feel I can help them overcome fears, express themselves, initiate ideas, plans, actions and a desire for lifelong learning.
